Lock Table Full or handle table is full



There are several reasons you may be receiving this error depending upon your computer and network configuration. Find your configuration below to determine how to correct your specific locking situation.
  • First, do a Find/Search for the files *.lck and *.ptl. The Find or Search option is under Start, Search/Find and select the option for the files or documents. You will need to set the drive to be the drive where the company data files reside. For a single user install this would be the local C drive. If a network install, this drive would be the mapped network drive to the server. Once the files are located delete all the files that are found in the Peachtree folder.
  • Second, determine what version of windows operating system this computer is. This can be found by going to the icon for My Computer, right click to properties.
  • Third, you will now need to edit either the config.sys file if using Windows 98 and then the config.nt file if on Windows 2000/XP/NT. If the operating system is Windows ME the file is System.ini. Below are the different options to make changes to the Files command line depending on the operating system.
You need to perfrom the below changes on EACH computer that is running Peachtree.

Steps for editing and making changes to the Config.sys file for Windows 98 operating system:
  1. Go to Start, Run.
  2. Type in SYSEDIT, click OK.
  3. Close the first screen autoexec.bat, this will show the next screen of Config.sys.
  4. Look for the line of FILES=
  5. If the line is there set the number to be 199
  6. If the line is not there click on the last character of the last line and then click Ctrl J, this should take you the next blank line and enter FILES=199.
  7. If the line is not there click on the last character of the last line and then click Ctrl J, this should take you the next blank line and enter BUFFERS=32,0.
  8. Go to File and Save and then File and Exit.
  9. Reboot the computer.
  10. Once rebooted Open Peachtree.
Steps for editing and making changes to the Config.nt file for Windows 2000/XP/NT:
  1. Go to Start Find/Search Files/Folders.
  2. Type in config.nt.
  3. Double click on the file that is in the directory system32.
  4. If asked to open with then scroll and select WORDPAD.
  5. Scroll to bottom of this file until you see FILES=.
  6. Change the value to 199 (for workstations) and 250(for server).
  7. Go to File Save.
  8. File Exit.
  9. Reboot the computer.
Steps for editing and making changes to the System.ini file for Windows ME:
  1. Go to Start, Run and type in system.ini.
  2. Click on the tab for the 386Enh section.
  3. This setting is implemented by adding the following line to the [386Enh] section of the System.ini file: PerVMFiles=150
  4. Save the changes and reboot the computer.
Finally, if you are using Windows 2000 or XP you will need to make sure that the power saving features on the Network Interface Card are turned off. Steps for turning off the power saving features of the Network Interface Card.
  1. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. Click on the Hardware tab.
  3. Click on the Device Manager button Click to Enlarge

  4. Double click on Network Adapters.
  5. Double click on your Network Adapter. Click to Enlarge

  6. Click on the Power Management tab
  7. Uncheck the box that reads “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.” Click to Enlarge

  8. Repeat this process for each Windows 2000/XP PC on the network including the server.
